-The last time ISU held five consecutive opponents to under 40 percent shooting was in the 2003 season (Dec. 5-Dec. 23, 2003)...ISU held seven-straight opponents to below-40 percent shooting in the 1999-2000 season.

Last Time Out
-Iowa State lost a heartbreaker at Hawaii on Monday, falling 60-59 in the final seconds.
-ISU built a 13-point second-half lead and boasted a seven-point advantage with 2:22 left before UH closed out the game on a 9-1 run.
-The game was tied at 58-58 when ISU's Craig Brackins was fouled with 0:02.6 left...Brackins missed his first free-throw attempt and connected on his second to give ISU a one-point lead.
-UH had to go the length of the court to score, but was bailed out by a Brackins foul at halfcourt on the inbound pass...UH's Bill Amis made both free-throws and ISU missed its final desperation shot.
-ISU was down by 12 points in the first half, but went on a 31-7 run in the bottom and top portions of the first and second halves, respectively, in mounting its 13-point lead.
-Diante Garrett was outstanding for the Cyclones, posting career highs in points (26) and field goals (7)...Garrett was 7-of-16 from the field and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line...he is averaging 21.5 points in the last two games.
-Garrett is the 16th Cyclone in school history to be perfect from the free-throw line with 10 or more attempts...his 26 points was the most by a Cyclone since Craig Brackins tallied 33 at Baylor last year...it was Garrett's second 20-point outing of his career.
-Brackins added 10 points in the loss, posting his seventh consecutive double-digit scoring outing dating back to last season.
-The Cyclones made 14-of-16 shots from the free-throw line, but connected on just 5-of-18 shots from downtown.

-ISU shot a season-low 36.4 percent, including 28.6 percent in the first half.
-ISU tallied eight steals in the game, tying a season-high.
-The Cyclones dished out a season-low six assists, marking the first time this season where ISU had more turnovers (10) than assists (6).
-ISU is averaging 9.7 3-pointers made per game this season.
Cyclone-Delta Devil Quick Facts
-Iowa State and Mississippi Valley State have faced each other one other time, an 106-64 Cyclone victory on Dec. 3, 1999.
-The Cyclones have only scored over 100 points in a game four times since.
-All-American Marcus Fizer led ISU with 27 points in the win, which was a part of the 1999 Norwest Cyclone Challenge.
-ISU has never lost a game to a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member, owning an all-time 12-0 mark.
-MVSU is coached by Sean Woods, who was a star at Kentucky from 1989-92 where he was a member of the “Unforgettables”...he is remembered for hitting the running bank shot in the 1992 East Regional final that put Kentucky up by one point (103-102) against Duke with 2.9 seconds left...of course, the next play is one of the most famous in NCAA history, as Duke's Christian Laettner grabbed a full-court pass from Grant Hill and sunk the shot at the buzzer to end Kentucky's magical season.
-Woods' Kentucky team played ISU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament that season in Worcester, Mass...ISU battled Kentucky to the end before falling 106-98...ISU's Justus Thigpen and Ron Bayless scored 32 and 30 points, respectively, in the loss...Woods had 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor.
-MVSU made the NCAA Tournament last year after winning the SWAC Conference tournament...James Green, a former assistant at ISU, was head coach of the Delta Devils last season...he is now head coach at Jacksonville State, who will play ISU on Dec. 20.
A Closer Look At Mississippi Valley State (0-7)
-Mississippi Valley State (0-7), located in Itta Benna, Miss., returns one starter from last season's NCAA Tournament team...the Delta Devils lost to UCLA in the first round.
-MVSU has played a very challenging schedule to date, losing to Oklahoma, Washington State, Arizona State, Arizona and Georgia.
-The Delta Devils are led by junior forward Shannon Behling, who is averaging 13.3 ppg...Behling, a 6-7 native of Columbia, S.C., had a double-double vs. James Madison with 22 points and 10 boards...Behling also has a team-high 14 treys.
-MVSU's top rebounder so far has been Eric Petty, who is grabbing 8.0 boards per game...a 6-6, 220-pound senior from Salinas, Calif., Petty tallied a double-double vs. Arizona State (11 pts., 10 reb.).
-Senior Dwayne Harmason is the Delta Devils' top playmaker...Harmason, a 5-10 guard from Baton Rouge, La., has a team-high 18 assists and is averaging 10.0 ppg.
-MVSU is shooting 33.8 percent from the field and its opponents have connected at a 54.7 percentage clip from the floor.
-MVSU is forcing 15.3 turnovers per game and averaging 7.1 steals per game.
-Head coach Sean Woods is in his first season with the Delta Devils.
Bombs Away!
-I guess the ISU basketball team did not get the memo that the 3-point line was moved back a foot.
-ISU is averaging 9.7 3-pointers made per game so far this season at a 39.6 percent clip...the Cyclones have made 35-of-its-last-78 shots (44.8 percent) from downtown.
-The Cyclones already have two games with 10 or more treys, including a school-record 15 on 27 attempts (55.6%) vs. UW-Milwaukee...ISU failed to hit double digit 3-pointers in a single game once last season.
-ISU already has six players who have made four or more treys this season, led by true freshman Wes Eikmeier's eight, who ironically did not play in ISU's record-setting 15-trey performance vs. UWM because of the flu.
60 Is The Magic Number
-Greg McDermott's Cyclone teams have always had the reputation for solid defense...ISU has held all but two teams this year to less than 60 points and have not allowed a team to shoot above 40 percent from the field once this season.
-Now in his third year at the helm, McDermott is a perfect 19-0 when an opponent fails to score 60 points.
Stingy Defense
-Through four games, ISU has not allowed an opponent to shoot above 40 percent from the field this season, keeping its opponents at a 34.6 percent clip.
-The last time ISU held five consecutive opponents to under 40 percent shooting was in the 2003 season (Dec. 5-Dec. 23, 2003)...ISU held seven-straight opponents to below-40 percent shooting in the 1999-2000 season.
Bench Play
-The Cyclones have the deepest bench since Greg McDermott took over in the 2006-07 season...ISU's third- and fourth-leading scorers - Wes Eikmeier (8.0) and Jamie Vanderbeken (7.3) - have not started a game this year.
-The Cyclones, who are averaging 23.5 ppg from their bench, have received at least 20 points from their bench in three of four games.
-35.3 percent of ISU's scoring this season have come from its bench.
