No. 2 ISU Collects Two Dual Victories in Fargo, N.D.

FARGO, N.D. ? The Cyclone wrestling team put on a dominating performance in the Bison Sports Arena Saturday, securing shutout victories against Dickinson State and North Dakota State, 52-0 and 42-0, respectively. Iowa State stands at 5-1 in dual competition this season. Four Cyclones remain undefeated. Nick Fanthorpe (11-0), Cyler Sanderson (5-0), Jake Varner (9-0) and David Zabriskie (10-0) retained spotless records.

“We had a good day,” Iowa State head coach Cael Sanderson said. “We scored a lot of points and our guys are focused on what they need to do to improve. We will train through next week before the holiday and then get ready for Midlands.”
The Cyclones continue their 2008-09 campaign Dec. 29-30 at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill.
Saturday, Fanthorpe continued the assault he has made on his opponent's feet this season. The Cyclone 133-pounder tallied 14 takedowns over his two matches. Fanthorpe ended his match with Dickinson State's Blake Hunter by way of technical fall, 20-5 (5:39) and stuck North Dakota State's Tyler Steinwand in 6:30.
Sanderson, the seventh-ranked 157-pounder in the nation, added two major decisions to his undefeated record. Sanderson was light on his feet as he beat DSU's Nick Zumwalt 25-17 and NDSU's Vince Salminen 17-6. Sanderson accounted for 17 takedowns over two matches.
Varner, Iowa State's top-ranked 197-pounder, contributed two pins in two matches. Varner recorded the fall against DSU's Tod Molesworth in 2:25 and pinned NDSU's Drew Ross in 1:16.
ISU heavyweight David Zabriskie notched two victories by fall. Cody Jamtgaard could not escape Zabriskie, getting pinned in 4:16. North Dakota State's Tyler Hemmesch was no match for the Cyclone All-American and was stuck in 2:44.
Recording wins by pin for ISU against Dickinson State were Tyler Clark (125), Nick Gallick (141) and Duke Burk (174).
Against Dickinson State, Jon Reader recorded his fourth technical fall of the year by beating Stanton Schlect 17-2 (5:33). Reader collected 11 takedowns Saturday.
ISU posted consecutive dual shutout victories last season by winning at Rider 34-0 Nov. 16 and beating Clarion 40-0 Nov. 18.
