Staiger then made his next three shots from downtown, scoring 15 points in the first six minutes while making his first five shots from 3-point range to give ISU a 20-9 lead.
ISU finally cooled down, going almost four minutes without a score until Jamie Vanderbeken scored on the inside to keep ISU ahead by 13 points (24-11) with 8:28 left before the break.
After Staiger made his sixth-straight trey to put ISU up 27-14, the Bulldogs went on a tear. DU staged a 10-0 run behind five points from Josh Young to cut the lead to three points (27-24) with 4:47 left in the half.
A Diante Garrett trey and another Staiger bomb, his seventh of the half, pushed ISU back up by nine points. However, Drake scored the final five points to make it a 33-29 Cyclone lead at the break. Staiger had 21 first-half points behind 7-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Staiger hit his eighth trey and Petersen buried two more bombs to pad ISU's lead to 11 points (44-33) with 16:31 left in the game. Drake cut the lead to six points on a pair of Josh Young free-throws, but ISU answered with five points from Craig Brackins to boost the lead back up to 10 points (53-43) with 11:49 remaining in the game.
The Bulldogs just would not go away, however. After ISU's Eikmeier drilled a trey to put the Cyclones up 12, Young and Jonathan Cox nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to chip the lead to six points (56-50) with 10:04 left in the game.
The Cyclones got the lead back up to 10 points again, but an 11-2 run by the Bulldogs made it a 62-61 game after a Cox 3-pointer with 4:18 left in the game. Drake then took its first lead of the game on a Craig Stanley 3-pointer with 3:04 left to make it a 64-62 Bulldog lead.
Both teams failed to score on their next three possessions until Brackins was fouled with 0:29 seconds, where he made one of two free-throw attempts to shave the lead to 64-63.
DU's Craig Stanley was immediately fouled on the inbounds pass, making one of two foul shots to give ISU one more chance. Petersen had two chances for ISU, but missed on both attempts.
Staiger ended the game with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from 3-point range. His eight treys was one shy from the school record and ties for second all-time.
