AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State head volleyball coach Christy Johnson announced Thursday that Rachel Hockaday, a PrepVolleyball.com top-150 selection, will attend Iowa State on a volleyball scholarship for the upcoming 2008-09 season. Hockaday, a 6-0 outside hitter from Decatur, Ill., is the fifth player to sign with Iowa State.
“We feel very fortunate to land a talented player like Rachel this late in the recruiting process,” said Johnson. “She's a terrific athlete, a great all-around player that has trained and competed at a very high level for several years. We are very excited to add Rachel to an already outstanding 2008 recruiting class.”
Hockaday prepped at Maroa-Forsyth High School and helped her team to a 68-3 record in her final two seasons with the Trojans. A four-year letterwinner, Hockaday was a member of three regional championship teams, which included a third-place finish at state in 2007.
The Macon County Player of the Year captained Maroa-Forsyth for three years and finished her career as the school's all-time career kill leader en route to earning first-team all-state accoloades last fall.
Hockaday also trained at a high level in club, playing six years for the Illini Elite Volleyball Club which earned a second-place finish in the American Division at the 2006 National Championships. Hockaday was an all-tournament team honoree at the event.
