AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State tennis team travels to Oklahoma to face Big 12 foes Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this weekend. The Cyclones and Sooners will face-off at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Iowa State and Oklahoma State hit the courts of the Jack DeBois Tennis Complex on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match.
Iowa State is 4-8 overall and 0-5 in the Big 12. The Cyclones lost two last week to No. 19 Texas and No. 31 Texas A&M. Iowa State's only win on the weekend came at the No. 1 doubles spot where Chrissy Derouin and Erin Karonis defeated Texas A&M's Anna Blagodarova and Tiffany Clifford, 8-6.
Oklahoma will step onto the courts on Friday with a record of 8-7 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Sooners split matches last weekend with Kansas State and Kansas, they defeated the Wildcats, 7-0, but lost to the 70th-ranked Jayhawks, 4-3. Oklahoma is led by freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu, who is currently rated the 87th-best singles player in the nation. The product of Bucharest, Romania, has posted a record of 10-3 in her first season as a Sooner. Constantinescu has teamed with senior Chelsea Orr for a No. 1 doubles record of 11-3.
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls enter Sunday's match with a mark of 6-7 overall and 0-4 in conference matches. The Cowgirls also road tripped through Kansas, but lost both matches. The Jayhawks defeated the Cowgirls, 6-1. OSU lost, 4-3, to the Wildcats. Freshman Jo Anne Karaitiana currently leads Oklahoma State in singles wins with nine.
