AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State volleyball team opened its doors to the public Saturday for the first time in 2008 as the team held its annual Cardinal & Gold scrimmage at Hilton Coliseum.
Head coach Christy Johnson mixed and matched players as the team prepared for the season opening tournament next weekend in Milwaukee, Wis.
Sophomore outside hitter Victoria Henson paced the offensive attack with 22 kills on 59 attacks. Senior Mary Bisenius added 19 kills while the freshman duo of Rachel Hockaday and Carly Jenson were impressive, chipping in 14 kills each. Hockaday, a Decatur, Ill., native led all attackers with a .364 hitting percentage. Freshman Debbie Stadick and Kelsey Petersen were also in double figures with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Sophomore Ashley Mass posted a team-best 24 digs on the day with Jenson second with 21.
The Cyclones open the season Friday with matches against Illinois State and UW-Milwaukee.
