Cyclone Notebook
? Iowa State returns to the court Friday after suffering its third loss of the season Wednesday, a 3-1 setback against Northern Iowa.
? The Cyclones will host a tournament for the first time since 2006, welcoming Drake, Iowa and Xavier to Hilton Coliseum. ISU opens tournament play Friday against Iowa in a Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series contest before facing Drake and Xavier Saturday.
? Sophomore Victoria Henson had her best match as a Cyclone against the Panthers, ripping a career-high 27 kills and hitting .372. Henson has now posted 23 double-digit kill matches in her career, including three straight.
? With Henson's performance, ISU has now posted the top kill and hitting percentage matches in the Big 12 to date. Jen Malcom's .789 hitting percentage at Creighton also tops the list.
? The 27 kills by Henson was a school-record for a four-set match in the rally scoring era.
? Kaylee Manns is leading the Big 12 with 11.48 assists per set. Against UNI, Manns finished with a season-high 59 assists.
? Sophomore libero Ashley Mass has had 10+ digs in every match this season, running her consecutive match streak to 34. The streak dates back to her first career start at libero against LSU in 2007.
? Henson is leading Iowa State with 4.17 kills per set, which ranks second in the Big 12. Henson also is third in the league in points per set with 4.67.
? Henson has 121 kills in the first eight matches after having just 39 in last year's first eight contests. More impressive is the fact that after hitting .023 to open last season, Henson is hitting at a .256 clip.
? Iowa State is 8-1 against Iowa schools under Christy Johnson after falling to UNI Wednesday.
? Iowa State has been out blocked in three of eight matches this season, with Wednesday's 16 to four against UNI the largest difference this season and the largest of the Christy Johnson era. It was the most an ISU team has been out blocked since Sept. 25, 1998 at Nebraska, when the Cyclones were out blocked 13 to one.
? Mass had a career-high five service aces and ISU had 11 as a team against Florida International. The 11 team aces was the most by a Cyclone squad in a three-set match since 1997, when ISU aced Hofstra 11 times.
? Jen Malcom is third in the Big 12 with a .460 hitting percentage.
? The Cyclones, who rank fifth in the Big 12 in digs, have out dug all but one opponent on the season. Middle Tennessee had 51 digs to ISU's 50 last Friday night.
Scouting Iowa
? The Hawkeyes are 3-3 on the season after a 2-1 performance last weekend at the Pioneer Classic in Denver, Colo. Iowa beat Tennessee and Virginia but lost to Denver in sweeping fashion.
? Iowa's offensive attack is led by outside hitters Catherine Smale and Megan Schipper. Smale averages 3.39 kills per set and Schipper is just behind with 3.26. Middle blocker Laura Kremer is the Hawkeyes leading hitter with a .355 hitting percentage on 2.57 kills per set.

Scouting Xavier
? Xavier comes to Ames for the first time this weekend, sporting a 4-2 record after dropping a four-set match to Western Kentucky on Tuesday.
