AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State sophomore Ashley Mass was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after collecting 77 digs in 13 sets last week. It marks the third time in her career that she has earned the honor.
The libero averaged 5.92 digs while also recording a pair of service aces and posting 14 assists during the week. Against Northern Iowa, Mass finished with 21 digs in the four-set loss. She added 15 digs in a sweep of Iowa before going for 24 in ISU's three-set victory over Drake. Mass established the school's three-set rally scoring era record with the total. The Muskego, Wis. native capped the weekend with 17 digs in the Cyclones' 3-0 win over Xavier to earn all-tournament team honors and move into first place in the Big 12 for digs per set.
Kansas State outside hitter Rita Liliom was named offensive player of the week after tallying 67 kills in four matches while Texas Tech's Amanda Dowdy was recognized as the league's rookie of the week.
