AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State men's cross country in ranked 11th in the latest USTFCCCA Men's Division I Cross Country national poll which was released Sept. 20th. The Cyclones made the jump in the polls after a second place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn. this weekend. Sophomore Hillary Bor's eight-place finish earned him the Big 12 Conference's men's cross country runner-of-the-week. Bor was the first Cyclone across the finish line as he clocked a time of 24:19 to help give Iowa State a second place finish at the meet.
“It's obviously a tribute to the guys and the direction that we are heading with the program,” head coach Corey Ihmels said. “We are excited about the attention that the team has gotten to this point and just look forward to continue to do what were doing and get better as the season progresses.”
The Cyclones jump 18 spots from their pre-season rank of 29th. Ihmels feels that the pre-season rankings were still accurate even though ISU was an NCAA Championship qualifier last season.
“Obviously there's a little bit of a change after we ran pretty well this weekend,” Ihmels said. “We know week to week that can change quite a bit in terms of how people are running. We have a long way to go the rest of the year and we are not going to get too caught up in what the rankings say.”
