MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? Iowa State committed just four attack errors and hit .451 to beat Florida International, 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-6), and hand the Golden Panthers their first loss of the 2008 season Saturday evening at the Blue Raider Bash.
The Cyclones (5-2) were red hot on the attack, committing no hitting errors in the final two sets, and behind the service line, finishing with a season-high 11 aces. The Golden Panthers (6-1) hit just .071 in the match, committing 18 hitting errors.

“It was nice to finish out the tournament playing well tonight,” Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson said. “I thought we came out and were all business tonight and did a great job maintaining focus no matter the score. We need to realize that all the teams we face are good and come to play each and every point.”
Mary Bisenius and Victoria Henson had 12 kills to lead the Cyclones to the win. Bisenius had her best match of the season, finishing with a .440 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs, a solo block and three block assists. Jen Malcom had another impressive hitting performance, ripping six kills on 13 attacks with no errors for a .462 hitting percentage. Malcom has committed no hitting errors in three of ISU's four matches this week.
Defensively, Ashley Mass had a match-high 13 digs to go along with a career-high five service aces. The Cyclones out blocked the Golden Panthers, 9.5 to one, getting six block assists from Malcom.
Malcom, who averaged 3.11 kills on a .490 hitting percentage, joined setter Kaylee Manns on the all-tournament team. Manns dished out 11.11 assists and averaged 1.89 digs and 1.11 blocks for the weekend.
The first set of the match was the closest, with ISU taking a 25-18 win. The Cyclones took their first lead at 3-2 on a dump kill from Manns before slowly pulling away. ISU hit .359 in the first set while holding FIU to a .189 hitting percentage.
The second set was all Cyclones as they scored the first 10 points of the set and cruised to a 25-9 win behind a .650 hitting percentage as a team.
For the second straight set, ISU had no attack errors and raced out to an early lead in the third set and went on to win 25-6 and wrap up the match. The Cyclones hit .435 and held FIU to a -.120 hitting percentage in the frame.
Iowa State returns to the court for its home opener Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. against Northern Iowa at Hilton Coliseum.
