AMES, Iowa -- Former Butte (Calif.) College safety David Sims, who had 72 tackles and made three interceptions for the Roadrunners in 2007, has signed a national letter of intent and will play for Iowa State's football team this fall. The Gainesville, Fla. native played at running back during the 2006 season. He is currently enrolled at ISU and will participate in spring practice.
"David provides us additional speed in the defensive backfield," Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said. "It is especially important that he will be with us during strength and conditioning all semester and will ready to compete in spring football."
The 5-11, 200-pound Sims had originally committed to Oklahoma after junior college before sitting out the 2008 season.
Sims also broke up six passes and recovered five fumbles at Boise. He was a valuable special teams performer who returned a kickoff and a missed field goal attempt for touchdowns in 2007.
