AMES, Iowa--Iowa State (9-4), winners of its last two games, will play host to SIU-Edwardsville (4-11) in its first game of the New Year on Saturday. The ISU-SIUE game will be the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The ISU women will play host to nationally ranked Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. The men's game will start at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised locally on Mediacom.

-Iowa State is coming off one of its most complete games of the season with a 67-49 win over Mercer on Wednesday...the 49 points ISU allowed was a season opponent-low, as the Cyclones held the Bears to 34.6 percent from the field.
-ISU shot 46.2 percent from the floor against Mercer, as ISU improved to 9-0 this season when shooting better than its opponent.
-ISU is 22-0 in the McDermott era when holding an opponent to under 60 points.

-Iowa State posted one of its most complete games of the season on Wednesday, defeating Mercer, 67-49 in Hilton Coliseum.
-ISU held the Bears to a season-low 49 points, holding an opponent to below 50 points for the first time since defeating Colorado 57-41 on Jan. 29, 2008.

-Craig Brackins continued his incredible scoring exploits in recent games, tallying his sixth 20+ game of the season with 22 points behind an 8-of-14 effort from the floor...Brackins, who also led ISU with eight rebounds, is averaging 26.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and shooting 60.6 percent (40-66 FG) from the field in his last four games.
-Brackins currently ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring (19.1 ppg) and fifth in the league in rebounding (8.2 rpg).
-Lucca Staiger and Bryan Petersen each scored 11 points behind 3-of-8 efforts from beyond the arc...Staiger has made 24-of-49 shots (48.9 percent) from 3-point range in his last seven games.
-Petersen's three treys give him 68 3-pointers for his career to rank 18th all-time in school history...he needs four 3-pointers to pass Julius Michalik (71 3-pointers) at No. 17 on the all-time list...Petersen's 11 points tied a season-best.
-Alex Thompson came off the bench to tally six points (3-4 FG), four boards and one block in the win...Thompson ranks 11th in the Big 12 in blocks (1.0 bpg).
-ISU committed just eight turnovers and handed out 16 assists in the game...the eight turnovers tied for a season low for ISU...the Cyclones, who rank first in the league in fewest turnovers (11.7 tpg) and second in assist/turnover ratio (1.3), have registered more assists than turnovers in nine of 13 games this season.

-SIU-Edwardsville arrives in Ames with a 4-11 overall record...the Cougars are currently in the NCAA's Division I reclassifying period...the Illinois school will be eligible for full Division I status in the 2012-13 season.
-The Cougars ended their seven-game losing streak with a 77-71 victory at UMKC last Sunday...freshman guard Aaron Garriott posted a perfect game from the floor to lead SIUE...Garriott was 8-for-8 from the field, 3-of-3 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line en route to a career-high 24 points.
-SIUE is led by another freshman Mark Yelovich, who is averaging 13.2 ppg and shooting 44.9 percent from 3-point range (22-49 3FG).

-Junior guard Barry Wellington, a transfer from Mineral Area College, is averaging 10.6 points and leads the team in steals at 1.7 spg.
