AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State volleyball players Victoria Henson and Kaylee Manns have been honored by the Big 12 as the league's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively. The award is the third of Henson's career and the first for Manns.
Henson, a junior from Leavenworth, Kan, finished the week averaging 5.29 kills, 3.00 digs and 1.29 blocks as Iowa State went unbeaten with road wins at Oklahoma and Kansas. Henson hit .260 and averaged 6.29 points per set.
In the week's opener against the Sooners, Henson posted one of the better all-around matches in recent memory as the Cyclones won in Norman for the first time since 2005. The outside hitter posted 24 kills, 14 digs, three solo blocks and three block assists in ISU's 3-1 win. She hit .250 in the match and tallied 28.5 points.
Henson then registered 13 kills on a .278 hitting percentage in a sweep of the Jayhawks on Saturday. She also had seven digs, three block assists and a service ace in the win. In the match, she moved up to seventh all-time at ISU with 1,049 career kills, passing Dana Burson (1986-89).
Manns, a senior setter, averaged a team-high 4.57 digs per set while also averaging 1.14 blocks. The setter also dished out 11.43 assists and posted 0.29 aces per frame for the Cyclones. She also had 1.00 kills per set and hit .600 on the week.
In ISU's match against Oklahoma, Manns dished out 46 assists and tied a career-high with 23 digs. The Big 12's leader in assists also posted three kills on four attempts, a service ace and three block assists in the Cyclones' first win in Norman since 2005.
Manns followed that performance dishing out 34 assists to go along with nine digs, a solo block and four block assists in a sweep of Kansas. The Topeka, Kan. native also had four kills on six swings and a service ace.
Nebraska freshman Hannah Werth was tabbed as rookie of the week by the league.
