AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State's football team under the direction of first-year head coach Paul Rhoads is one of three FBS squads nationally to have already won at least three more games than it did all of last season. Iowa State is 5-3 this fall after losing its last 10 games of the 2008 season to finish 2-10 overall.
Only Idaho, which has won six games this fall, four more victories than in 2008, ranks ahead of Iowa State. Washington, one of four schools among the 10 most improved teams with a first-year head coach, is tied for second with Iowa State at +3.
