COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Iowa State women's cross country team earned its best finish in Big 12 Championship history, finishing third overall at the 2009 Big 12 Cross Country Championships. The Cyclone men finished fourth.
Senior
Lisa Koll led the Iowa State women with a third-place individual finish. She was also third in 2007. This ties the best finish ever for an ISU runner at the Big 12 Championship. Koll's time of 21 minutes 17 seconds was only four seconds behind the second-place finisher.
Freshman
Betsy Saina and senior Grace Kemmey crossed the finish line almost together, taking 17th and 18th place, respectively. Their times were split by three-tenths of a second. Freshman Alphine Tuliamuk placed 20th (22:19), while sophomore
Meaghan Nelson rounded out the top five finishers, placing 27th (22:34).
In the men's race, Iowa State senior
Guor Marial's effort (25:04) earned him fourth-place, leading the Cyclone men to fourth-place finish overall. Marial's finish marked the first time since 2001 that a Cyclone runner finished the league race among the top five finishers. Junior
