BOULDER, Colo. ? No. 9 Iowa State used 11 kills from Rachel Hockaday and hit .309 to defeat Colorado, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-16), Saturday afternoon at the Coors Event Center, running its school-record winning streak to 10 matches.
Hockaday led the Cyclones (19-3, 11-2 Big 12) hitting .500 in the match, while Victoria Henson notched 10 kills to reach double-digits for the 19th consecutive match and 66th time in her career. Freshman Jamie Straube added nine kills and Debbie Stadick had seven and hit .429.
The Cyclones out blocked the Buffaloes (6-16, 1-12), seven to three. ISU, which has out blocked eight of its last nine opponents, was led by Henson at the net. The junior finished with a solo stuff and two block assists. Straube added three solo blocks of her own in the winning effort.
Iowa State libero Ashley Mass posted a match-high 19 digs. Mass posted 61 digs in two matches this week for an average of 7.63 per set. Mass, who now has 1,584 digs, moved up to third all-time in the Big 12, passing former Nebraska outside hitter Jennifer Saleaumua.
Caitlin Mahoney was also in double figures with 10 digs, while Hockaday tacked on nine. Kaylee Manns finished with 39 assists and seven digs in the match.
In the opening frame, Colorado held ISU in check, limiting the Cyclones to a .093 hitting percentage, but ISU took the 25-21 win. Mass notched eight digs and the Cyclones had four team blocks as the Buffaloes hit just .070 in the set.
ISU never trailed and blistered the ball at a .484 clip in the second set en route to a 25-15 win. The set was tied at 4-4 but ISU rattled off six-straight points to break it open. Through two sets, ISU had a six to three edge in blocks and Mass had 12 digs.
Iowa State never trailed in the final set either, taking a 25-16 to earn its 13th sweep of the season. The Cyclones finished the match with a kill from freshman setter Alison Landwehr, who saw time at right side hitter for the first time in her career.
Colorado had three players in double-figures, including Becah Fogle and Rosie Steinhaus, who finished with 12 kills each. Kerra Schroeder added 10 for the Buffs.
The Cyclones return home Wednesday night to face No. 2 Texas at 6:30 p.m. Admission for the match is $1.
