AMES, Iowa ? For the first time in school history Iowa State has swept the weekly Big 12 awards. The conference announced today that Victoria Henson (offensive), Ashley Mass (defensive) and Jamie Straube (rookie) earned player of the week honors after the Cyclones picked up road sweeps of Texas A&M and Kansas State. Iowa State has now won 12 weekly honors this season, five more than Nebraska, which is second in the league.
Henson picked up her fourth career honor after averaging 5.00 kills, 4.00 digs, 1.33 blocks and 5.92 points per set in ISU's two wins last week. She posted double-doubles in the sweeps, recording identical 15 kill-12 dig performances in both matches.
Against the Aggies, the Leavenworth, Kan. native added a solo block and four block assists as ISU won in College Station for just the second time in school history. She hit .355 against K-State and tacked on three block assists as ISU earned another sweep.
Mass, a junior from Muskego, Wis., averaged 7.33 digs per set last week to earn her 12th career Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award. It is her sixth award this season.
Mass opened the week with 20 digs against A&M before posting 24 in the Cyclones' win at Kansas State, becoming the school's all-time leader for 20-dig matches with the 30th of her career.
Straube, a freshman from Tecumseh, Neb., takes home her second career honor after posting 3.00 kills, 1.50 blocks and 4.33 points per set last week. The middle blocker hit .350 for the week.
Straube's impact was felt both defensively and offensively last week.
Against A&M, the middle blocker dominated the net with a career-high three solo blocks and five block assists. She also had eight kills and three digs in the win.
Straube followed that with a more offensive performance against Kansas State, recording 10 kills on a .444 hitting percentage. She added two service aces, two digs and a block assist.
