AMES, Iowa - Iowa State (2-0) will travel to Drake (0-1) on Tuesday in an in-state showdown on Mediacom. Cyclone fans can also watch the game online through a Clone Zone subscription on cyclones.com. - The Cyclones won their last mythical state championship in the 2005-06 season, sweeping Drake, Northern Iowa and Iowa.
- The Drake game will be ISU's third in five days.
- The Cyclones will try to end a three-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.
- ISU junior forward LaRon Dendy, who had 16 points and seven boards in his Cyclone debut vs. Idaho State, sprained a knee in practice Saturday morning...he did not play against Chicago State and is expected to be out for at least two weeks.
- ISU improved to 2-0 with a 72-50 win over Chicago State on Sunday...ISU's top-two scorers (Marquis Gilstrap; Craig Brackins) struggled offensively, making just 4-of-23 shots combined...however, ISU forced 20 turnovers and held CSU to 28.6 percent from the field, the first opponent to shoot below 30 percent vs. ISU since Oregon State (11-30-07).
Last Time Out
- Iowa State improved to 2-0 with a 72-50 win over Chicago State Sunday afternoon.
- The Cyclones struggled on offense, shooting 40.7 percent from the floor and committing 16 turnovers.
- However, ISU held the Cougars to 28.6 percent shooting from the floor, the first time ISU kept an opponent below 30 percent since Oregon State shot 28.2 percent against ISU on Nov. 30, 2007.
- ISU is now 24-2 in the Greg McDermott era when scoring more than 70 points and 27-2 when keeping an opponent below 60 points.
- The strong Cyclone defense also registered double digits in blocks for the first time since posting 11 last year vs. Houston Baptist.
- ISU preseason All-American Craig Brackins was the leader in the swat party, blocking a career-high six shots...Brackins, who scored seven points in the game, was held below double figures for the first time since scoring four against SIU-Edwardsville on Jan. 3, 2009, ending a 19-game double-figure scoring streak.
- Brackins' six blocks ties for 11th on ISU's single-game swat chart...it is the most by a Cyclone since Jared Homan tallied seven blocks vs. Minnesota on March 18, 2005.
- His seven points moved him to No. 24 on ISU's all-time scoring list with 1,035 pts.
- Marquis Gilstrap posted his first double-double in the Chicago State game with 11 points and 15 boards...his 15 rebounds is the most by a Cyclone since Brackins grabbed 16 vs. Houston Baptist last season.
- Diante Garrett, who is averaging 6.0 apg this year, handed out five assists, the 26th time in his career where he tallied five or more assists in a game.
- Garrett moved to the No. 13 spot on ISU's all-time assists list with 264.
- Scott Christopherson came off the bench to score in double figures for the second consecutive game with a team-high 12 points...Christopherson is 8-for-12 from the field (66.7 percent) and 4-of-6 from downtown (66.7 percent) on the season.
- Lucca Staiger hit two treys and Jamie Vanderbeken was 3-for-3 from downtown against Chicago State...Staiger has made two or more treys in a game 25 times in his career.
- ISU has been impressive from long-range, making 16-of-31 shots from beyond the arc (51.6 percent).
- ISU is averaging 7.5 blocks and forcing 17.0 turnovers in the first two games.
Cyclones Earn Preseason Big 12 Awards
- ISU junior Craig Brackins and senior Marquis Gilstrap (pronounced Mar-KWEZ) were honored in the 2009-10 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Awards...Brackins was a preseason All-Big 12 First-Team pick and Gilstrap, a junior college transfer from Gulf Coast C.C. [Fla.], was selected as the 2009 Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
- Gilstrap began his NCAA time clock in the 2005-06 season at Palm Beach C.C...after suffering a severe leg injury, he left school and worked during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 basketball seasons.
- He went back to school last year (2008-09) at Gulf Coast C.C., where he earned Panhandle Conference Player of the Year honors after averaging 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds...he is listed as a senior because this is his fifth season of eligibility according to the NCAA “five years to play four” rule.

- The Iowa State-Drake series is one of the oldest annual rivalries west of the Mississippi...the two teams have met every season since 1908.
- ISU leads the all-time series at 104-64 and has the advantage in games played in Des Moines at 46-39.
- The Bulldogs have won the last three games in the series, including last season's 66-63 victory in Hilton Coliseum...Drake has not won four-straight in the series since 1973-77.

- To say that senior Josh Young has been instrumental in Drake's three-game winning streak would be an understatement...Young has dominated the Cyclones in his first three meetings, scoring 18, 23 and 19 points, respectively...he is averaging 20.0 points, shooting 52.7 percent from the floor (19-36 FG), 64.7 percent from 3-point range (11-17 3FG) and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line (11-12 FT).
- ISU head coach Greg McDermott has faced Drake a number of times in his career...he is 8-5 all-time vs. Drake, going 8-2 vs. the Bulldogs as head coach at UNI...he is 0-3 against Drake as the Cyclone mentor...he is 1-7 against Missouri Valley teams since taking over the head coaching duties at Iowa State.
- ISU junior Lucca Staiger and Drake sophomore Frank Wiseler were roommates and teammates at the Urspring Academy in Germany.

- Ryan Wedel, who was playing in his first game after transferring from Arkansas State, led the Bulldogs with 23 points behind a 4-of-6 effort from 3-point range.
