AMES, Iowa (November 4, 2009) - Cyclone Sports Properties (CSP) and Iowa State University Athletics, announced today that the Nov. 7 game vs. Oklahoma State at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames will showcase wind energy. Cyclone Sports Properties will use wind-sourced renewable energy certificates to offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the energy consumption of a typical game at Jack Trice Stadium.
This special, showcase event is designed to educate Iowans about wind energy as the state is one of the highest wind producers in the nation. In addition to CSP, MidAmerican Energy, ITC Midwest and the Iowa Department of Economic Development are joining the awareness initiative as corporate partners.
"This event brings together two of my favorite things: college football and renewable energy," said Governor Chet Culver. "The state of Iowa continues to lead the nation in the production of wind energy, and this game showcases not only a strong Cyclones football team but the potential of renewable energy to power Iowa."
"Partnering with ISU athletics to showcase the state's leadership in renewable energy provides thousands of football fans an opportunity to learn more about wind energy. We're proud that MidAmerican Energy is the national leader in ownership of wind generation among regulated utilities," said Tom Budler, general manager-wind development for MidAmerican Energy.
Doug Collins, executive director of ITC Midwest, said the electric transmission company is pleased to help showcase wind energy development in the state.
"ITC Midwest has been busy the past two years, connecting Iowa's wind farms to the regional electric transmission grid," Collins said. "This partnership is one way to draw attention to the role wind energy plays in Iowa's economy and its energy portfolio."
The campaign will be extensively promoted through nearly 30 affiliates on the Cyclone Radio Network, as well as in-game videoboard messaging and live on-field recognition.
