AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State cross country teams will travel to Springfield, Mo. Saturday, for the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships. The men's 10,000-meter race will begin at noon, followed by the women's 6,000-meter race at 1:15 p.m.
"I think coming off (the Big 12 Championships) we've got a lot of momentum from Guor, Hillary and Lisa's performances," head coach Corey Ihmels said. "We've got a lot at stake this weekend with a trip to nationals and the Cy-Hawk series (on the line) so I think we've got more than enough motivation to get us ready for this weekend."
The NCAA Midwest Regional Championship will serve as the first round of the NCAA Championships, as the top two teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team automatically advance to the national championship. Additional teams and individuals are chosen through an at-large process following all regional competitions. A total of 33 NCAA Division I schools will represent 10 collegiate conferences.
This meet will also serve as the Iowa State-Iowa cross country meets for the HyVee Cy-Hawk series. Both men's and women's teams will be competing for two Cy Hawk series points.
The latest national polls have the Cyclone women ranked 18th and the men ranked 27th, both teams are ranked third in the Midwest Region.
