Johnson-Lynch Named Central Region Coach of the Year

AMES, Iowa ? Add AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year to the list of honors for fifth-year Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch. The head coach was rewarded today for the Cyclones' record-setting season today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Johnson-Lynch has guided her team to its best season in school history with a 27-4 overall record and a Big 12 record of 17-3, good for second-place in the conference standings. Setting school records for wins in a season in both overall and conference victories, Johnson-Lynch has led Iowa State to its best national ranking in the program's history, coming in at No. 5 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top-25 Poll.

Johnson-Lynch was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for her guidance in a season consisting of numerous record breakers and accomplishments for the Cyclones. Along with her Coach of the Year honors, six other players on Iowa State's team were awarded Big 12 awards including Libero of the Year Ashley Mass. The Cyclones are set to play in the third round of the NCAA tournament against Nebraska this Friday, marking their third-straight NCAA Regional appearance.

This is Johnson-Lynch's first AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year honor.
