AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State volleyball players Kaylee Manns and Ashley Mass have been named Stellar Spikers by Collegiate Volleyball Update.
Manns, a junior, was a first-team selection after averaging 11.69 assists per set to lead the Big 12 and rank fourth in the nation. The Topeka, Kan. native dished out 1,508 assists to break her own school record. Manns now holds the top-three single-season marks in ISU history and needs just 64 assists to become the school's career leader.
Mass, a sophomore, was named honorable mention after being recognized as the Big 12's Libero of the Year. She led the Big 12 with 5.01 digs per set. Her 646 digs shattered the previous school record of 606 set by Steph McCannon in 1995 and helped her earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. The Muskego, Wis. native became the fastest Cyclone ever to reach 1,000 career digs, doing it in her 59th career match. Mass sits just 726 digs off the school record with two years left to play.
In honoring the 88 student-athletes from across the nation, CVU.com looked for players that exhibited excellence and balance. While NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they weren't the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and in choosing the 60 Honorable Mention selections was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed as well as conference awards.
