OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Iowa State men's basketball team arrived in Oklahoma City Monday night in preparation for the 2009 Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championship, March 11-14 at the Ford Center.

The Cyclones spent Tuesday morning practicing at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City, the home of New England Patriot star receiver Wes Welker. Welker led Heritage Hall to the 1999 Oklahoma state title, scoring 80 touchdowns in his high school career.
After official practice ended, many of the players were busy playing with their new Apple iTouch handheld. The Apple iTouch was the official gift of the 2009 Big 12 Championship. All players and support staff of the 12 schools participating received the gift.
ISU headed to the Ford Center in the afternoon for its 45-minute shootaround. The Cyclones got the chance to get familiar with the surroundings of the arena, which is in its first year of housing the NBA franchise the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This Big 12 Championship was held in the Ford Center for the first time two years ago (2007), but not one Cyclone on the current roster competed in the tournament. Alex Thompson and Cameron Lee were on the team, but were sitting out as redshirts.
Fans attending the open practice were treated to an impressive dunkathon by the Cyclone squad members. Craig Brackins got the biggest applause with his one-handed monster jams from just inside the free-throw line.
The team dined at Charleston's and went over last-minute scouting of Oklahoma State before calling it a night. ISU will battle the Cowboys at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening.
