AMES, Iowa- Saturday marks the final home game for three Iowa State seniors. Bryan Petersen, Sean Haluska and Alex Thompson will wear the Cardinal and Gold for the last time in Hilton Coliseum vs. Texas Tech, and the trio sat down with cyclones.com to reflect on their careers at ISU.
What are you fondest memories of playing for Iowa State?
Bryan- “My fondest memories of playing for Iowa State have to be playing in front of the Hilton crowd. I also enjoyed just being around my teammates. I will always remember the way the fans treated my teammates and I whether we won or lost, it was always the same great support. There was no bigger thrill than playing in front of the home crowd when they were going crazy.”
Sean- “My fondest memories of playing for Iowa State will be playing at Hilton Coliseum in front of the best fans in the country. Night in and night out, we have loyal fans that come to the games and give 100 percent to cheer us on. You can't beat that and it is something that I will always cherish about playing here. I will remember all the fun times I've had with my teammates at Iowa State. I will also remember how our coaches never gave up on us when things weren't going well. They were always there to help us out and keep us going in the right direction.”
Alex- “Beating Iowa at home my junior year and beating UNI on the road my senior year.”
What are some of the most valuable lessons you learned while being a member of the ISU basketball team?
Bryan- “I would have to say I learned how to deal with the highs and lows of major college basketball. Over the last couple years I have learned how to deal with the tough times better than I have before. Hopefully I will be able to use this experience in my life after basketball. Another lesson I have learned from being on the ISU basketball team is being a great teammate. I found out how important it is to be there for someone.”
Sean- “I've learned the importance of playing for a team here at Iowa State and that hard work really does pay off. I've also learned that sometimes life isn't always easy and sometimes it gets tough, but if you stick with it and continue to give your best effort, things will turn out well in the end and you will have nothing to regret.”
Alex- “The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that has come from being committed to a team and giving my personal best effort everyday.”
What would you like to tell ISU fans before your last home game?
Bryan- “I would like to tell them thank you! The way they have cheered on my teammates and I over the last two years has been amazing. The way they make you feel on or off the court really makes you love the idea I get to play basketball for the Cyclones. Words can't describe how much the fans mean to our program and I really appreciate what they have done! I will miss playing in front of them a lot!”
Sean- “I would just like to thank them for all they do for our basketball team. We have the greatest fans in the country who support us no matter what. Their loyalty and support over the last two years that I've been here has been phenomenal. I really want them to know that I personally appreciate all of their support.”
Alex- “Thanks for all the good times I will never forget them! I appreciate the excitement and atmosphere that is ?Hilton Magic' and am really thankful for the support that was given to me over my two years playing at Iowa State.”
Will there be a lot of emotion when you step on the Hilton floor for the last time?
Bryan- “There will be a lot of emotion when I get on the court for the last time. I have had a lot of great memories on that floor in these last two short years. Just looking back at all the great times I have had and being part of something so special will be emotional for me. Hilton Coliseum is a very special place and I will miss playing there. Hopefully my emotions won't be too high and we will be able to play a great game and finish out our season with a big win!”
Sean- “I believe there will be a lot of emotions for me when I step onto the floor at Hilton on Saturday against Texas Tech. It will be the last time I'll play in Hilton in front of the wonderful fans we have here at Iowa State. It will be something that I'm going to miss a great deal after it is over.”
Alex- “There will be a lot of positive emotion in my last game at Hilton Coliseum. I am looking forward to being a part of all the fun that takes place on gameday at Hilton Coliseum one last time!”
What you going to miss the most after your ISU career is over?
Bryan- “Hands down, playing in Hilton Coliseum with my teammates. Having the chance to play in Hilton Coliseum the last few years has been a dream come true. I will miss the excitement and the adrenaline rush during a home game. The moment in the game when we are all clicking and we just made a big play, the other team has to call a timeout and the crowd goes wild is priceless in Hilton!”
Sean- “I am going to miss the interactions I have on a daily basis with my teammates and coaches. I will also miss playing against the best competition in the country each night in the Big 12. These past two years have been two of the best in my life and it is something that I'll never be able to go back and relive. To play basketball at Iowa State is something special. This place has been amazing over the past two years and I am grateful for the experiences I've had here.”
Alex- “I am going to miss my teammates the most. They are great people who I have grown really close to over my time at ISU. Spending time with them on and off the court has definitely been the highlight of my career.”
