HUTCHINSON, Kan. ? The Iowa State men's golf team shot a team total 614 and finished in 11th place on a cold and blistery day one at the Big 12 Championships in Hutchinson, Kan. Fighting wind chill temperatures near 40 degrees and wind gusts of up to 30 mph, teams were delayed by one hour before teeing off. Nathan Leary led the charge for the Cyclones, carding rounds of 76 and 73 and ending the day in a tie for 14th.
Freshmen Tom Lathrop and Michael Wuertz turned in a pair of top-40 performances for ISU while Nate McCoy and Ben Herrera both finished just inside the top 50.
Oklahoma State and Colorado are currently tied for the team lead with each team tallying two-round totals of 581. The Buffaloes' Derek Tolan and Baylor's Bill Alcorn finished 1-under-par and top the leaderboard after day one.
