AMES, Iowa?Iowa State sophomore golfer Katelynn Hogenson will tee it up with some of the best professional golfers in the nation this weekend in the Duramed Futures Tour Ladies Titan Tire Challenge, June 5-7 at the Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa.
The Muscatine, Iowa native won the amateur qualifier on Sunday at Hunters Ridge to earn a spot in the professional Futures Tour event, which is a developmental tour for the LPGA. She shot a 76.
Hogenson just finished her second season with the Cyclones. She competed in three events as a freshman in 2007-08, averaging 81.7 strokes per round.
Cyclone Women's Golf Notes:
Current Cyclone Kristin Paulson and former Cyclone Kendra Hanson both punched tickets to the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, June 22-27 at the Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass.
Paulson won the Public Links qualifier this afternoon at Ellis Golf Course in Cedar Rapids after firing a 71. Hanson finished second, one shot behind Paulson with a 72.
Paulson, a native of Ottumwa, Iowa, competed in all 11 tournaments as a true freshman for the Cyclones last season, finishing fourth on the team in stroke average at 79.42. She tied the school record for low 18-hole round with a 69 at the Mountain View Collegiate. Hanson ended her career in 2007-08 after playing in 114 rounds for the Cyclones, the fifth-most in school history.
