AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women's golf head coach Christie Martens has announced the signing of two new student-athletes. Emma Zheng and Leely Twiltermsup will be joining the Cyclonitas for the 2026-27 season.
"We're thrilled to welcome two exceptional student-athletes to our program," Martens said. "Emma is a world-class competitor who has represented New Zealand across the globe—her talent is matched by her outstanding character and leadership. Leely, from Thailand, brings a calm confidence and a friendly spirit, along with impressive international experience representing her country in elite competition. Both are accomplished golfers and remarkable young women, and we're excited for the impact they'll make on and off the course."
Twiltermsup, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, has four Top 10 finishes in eight World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) events in the last two years. Currently ranked 995th in the world, she has ranked as high as 979th in the world and is currently ranked No. 57 in Thailand. Twiltermsup has played in two of the biggest events in Thailand, as she finished 29th at the SINGHA – SAT Nakhon Nayok Ladies Championship and 61st at the SINGHA – NSDF Bangkok Ladies Championship. She also finished third at the SINGHA Thailand Amateur Match Play Championship, while earning a 30th place finish at the 32nd SINGHA Thailand Ladies Amateur Open. She won the 5th TJGGA Open Championship.
An Auckland, New Zealand, native, Zheng is currently ranked as the 258th best amateur in the world and has been as high as 221st. In the last two years, she has played in 37 WAGR counting events, finishing in the Top 10 in 27 of them with 14 victories. She most recently finished fifth at the New Zealand Amateur Championship after she won the New Zealand U19 Championship. She also competed at the World Amateur Team Championship – Espirito Santo Trophy, earning a 103rd place finish in a loaded field. She has played in 18 events so far in 2025, taking home the title in six of them while finishing in the Top 10 in five other events. Her biggest win of the season came at the Auckland Stroke Play Championship. Zheng is ranked as the third-best amateur golfer in New Zealand.
The Iowa State women's golf team returns to action in February, competing in the Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 1-3.
