HOUSTON, TX- The Cyclones get it done in Houston, winning the Texas Golf Throwdown in dominant fashion. The Cyclonitas finished the tournament two-under, with Nebraska being the next closest at 37-over. Iowa State never took their foot off the gas for all three rounds, shooting two rounds under par.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon was your overall champion, winning her first career tournament, shooting six-under after three rounds. Pinprayoon shot three under-par rounds to help her take home the win. Pinprayoon shot an impressive bogey-free final round with two birdies as well. Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn took the overall second-place spot in the tournament after a one-under final round, making this her best tournament of the year. Chul-Ak-Sorn scored five birdies in her final round as well.
Pammy Chookaew found her groove again, placing in a tie for fourth after shooting a three-round total of two-over. Chookaew snagged four birdies in her final round to score her a two-over round. Isabella Yan ended her tournament off tied for eighth, making this also her best career finish. Yan shot a clean, even-par final round with a few birdies to put her total at five-over.Â
Alexandra Vidal shot her tournament best round of two-over, putting her total at plus-10 and placing her in a tie for 18th. Vidal had four birdies in her final round to show for it. Keeley Marx played as an individual in the tournament and shot a three-round total of plus-10, tying Vidal for 18th. Following the pattern, Marx shot her best round of her tournament in the final round, scoring a one-over round. Marx also snagged four birdies as well.
The Cyclones' first win of the season comes early in the spring, and with a still heavily packed year to go, the confidence only rises for the Cyclonitas.Â
Iowa State's next contest comes next week, Feb. 23-24, when they head to Houston, Texas, again for the Chevron Collegiate.
