STANFORD, Calif. - The Iowa State women's golf team cut five strokes off its first round score on Saturday, as the Cyclonitas remained in a tie for eighth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate. In a loaded field, all eight teams at the top of the leaderboard are ranked in the Top 45 in the country, including three in the Top 10.
Junior Nichakorn Pinrayoon led the charge for the Cyclones on Saturday, as she shot a 70 (-1) in the second round. After opening her day with a bogey, she recorded three birdies to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard. With a 142, she sits in a tie for 16th entering the final round. With her three birdies on the day, she went over 275 for her career.Â
Isabella Yan recorded the first eagle of her season, and second of her career, as she shot an even round 71. Yan also had a birdie, as she moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard. She'll enter the final round with a 147 in a tie for 44th.
Alexandra Vidal continues to lead the Cyclonitas on the leaderboard, as she is tied for seventh entering the final round. Vidal shot a one-over 72, notching a birdie on the eighth hole. She has shot a 138 through two rounds and sits six shots behind the leader. Vidal now has a team leading 40 birdies on the year.
Grace Thanintorndamrongdej rounded out the scoring lineup for the Cyclones, as she shot a two-over 73. Thanintorndamrongdej turned in three birdies on the day, including two in her first three holes, as she moved up seven spots to a tie for 65th. She enters the final day with a 150. Emma Zheng was five strokes better in round two, as she shot a three-over 74. She tallied four birdies on the day, as she is tied with Vidal for the team lead. Zheng sits in a tie for 78th.
Stanford's Meja Ortengren, ranked No. 8 in the country, has the individual lead with a 132 after a second round 65. No. 12 Stanford has a 12-stroke lead over No. 4 Virginia in the team race.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT) on Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course.
