AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State's football team got down to business Wednesday.
“We played football today,” Rhoads said. “Until today, we practiced situational football, down and distance and specific situations. Today, we lined them up and offense went against defense throughout the course of practice.”
Rhoads said his experience has been that over a period of time, offenses and defenses experience fatigue at different times.
“Over the years, I've seen that different units struggle separately,” Rhoads said. “Depending on the drills you have been working, the offense or the defense may have an energy edge before practice starts on a given day.”
Iowa State defensive ends coach Curtis Bray likes what he sees at his position.
“Christopher Lyle is playing well,” Bray said. “We didn't get to see him that much because he was sick (mono) during the spring. He had a good season last year and we will see if he can move it a step up this season.”
Among the newcomers, Bray likes redshirt freshman Roosevelt Maggitt.
“I've told Rosey, ?you are fighting for reps.' But his future is bright and he is learning every day.”
Iowa State will practice twice Thursday.
