Cyclones Picked Third; Three Named Preseason All-Big 12

AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the Big 12 in a vote of the league's head coaches. For the Cyclones, who were picked to finish behind Texas and Nebraska, it is the highest preseason pick in school history.
The Cyclones went 22-13 overall last season and tied with Texas A&M for fourth in the Big 12 with an 11-9 record. ISU advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships and returns all but one starter from that squad, including All-Americans Victoria Henson, Kaylee Manns and Ashley Mass. Henson, Manns and Mass were named to the preseason all-league team.
Texas A&M was picked to finish fourth with Baylor and Kansas State rounding out the top-six teams.
One of the most dominant outside hitters in the country, Henson was one of seven players unanimously selected to the team. The junior from Leavenworth, Kan., led the Big 12 with 4.19 kills per set en route to earning All-Big 12 first-team accolades last season.
Manns was a second-team All-American last season after leading the Big 12 and finishing fourth in the nation with 11.69 assists per set. The senior from Topeka, Kan., also garnered first-team all-conference accolades and returns for her fourth year as the Cyclones' starting setter.
Mass garnered Big 12 Libero of the Year and third-team All-America accolades last season as a sophomore. The Muskego, Wis., native shattered the ISU single-season record with 646 digs. Her 5.01 digs per set led the league and her numbers were even better in conference play, where she averaged 5.22 digs.
