AMES, Iowa ? If you are an Iowa State student now is the time to make your voice heard. The Iowa State volleyball team is proud to announce the development of the CYd-Out Crew, the brand new student section at Cyclone volleyball matches.
Head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch and the Cyclones head into the season ranked No. 13 in the country and coming off an Elite Eight finish a year ago.
The Cyclones also finished last season ranked 14th in the country in average attendance, but Johnson-Lynch feels there is room for improvement.
“One of the goals we had was to build a great fan base and we are doing that,” Johnson-Lynch said. “But we feel there is another level there and part of that is a student section.
“We want to create that pressure, we want to have that home-court advantage and student-sections are a big part of that. There is no doubt that students make the environment what it is at matches and we look forward to having them on the sideline.”
CYd-Out Crew members will have reserved seating in the lower risers of sections 131-134. In addition to the best seats in the house, members receive a free t-shirt, pre/post-match cookouts at select matches, meet-and-greets with the team and exclusive giveaways.
“We are excited about getting students out to matches and even more so that we will have the opportunity to really get to know the students through the cookouts and the meet-and-greets,” Johnson-Lynch said. “We think it is going to be an exciting thing for the students and that it will really help us at home matches.”
Registration is free but students are required to have a Cy's Pass (Free with the purchase of football or basketball season tickets or $30) or purchase a ticket to attend the matches.
The season gets underway Friday at 6:30 p.m. with a match against UW-Milwaukee. Prior to Friday's match, the 2008 Cyclones will be honored with the unveiling of their Elite Eight banner.
The Cyclones and Panthers will have a rematch Saturday at 3 p.m. and there will be a cookout for the CYd-Out Crew following the match.
