AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State's 2009 football season opener against North Dakota State at 7 p.m. Thursday in Jack Trice Stadium is rapidly approaching and ISU athletics department officials want to ensure that Cyclone fans are as ready as their gridiron team. Major off-season changes in Jack Trice Stadium will present new opportunities for fans as they enter the refurbished facility.
“The totally re-modeled east side of the stadium includes the newly-widened concourse with expanded restroom and concession buildings,” ISU assistant athletics director for operations Nick Britton said. “These new features will enhance the game day experience for our fans. Additional light construction that will further the outward appearance of the stadium will continue throughout the season.”
The No. 1 piece of advice Britton has for fans is come early. This means for all games, including Thursday's North Dakota State game and the Sept. 12 game vs. Iowa. Parking lots will open at 1 p.m. Thursday for season-opener. Jack Trice Stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Britton wants fans to be alerted that there will be designated entry lanes at each gate for individuals who bring bags into the stadium and those bags will be searched.
“We are doing this for the safety of our fans,” Britton said. “That is why we are urging people to not delay their entrance into the stadium. We invite our fans to walk around inside the facility and see some of the stadium's new features.”
Potential stops are the east concourse and the Jacobson Plaza on the east side of the stadium.
Work continues at several stadium locations:
1. Site work continues on exterior fencing.
2. The area inside the stadium but next to the exterior fencing includes new sod.
3. A Jack Trice Tribute is still under construction. The artwork will be installed outside the club section.
Britton adds the work continues on aluminum panels that serve as canopies on entry gates. The All-American Plaza, which will pay tribute to all of Iowa State's All-American athletes in every sport, will be under construction through next season.
