LUBBOCK, Texas ? Victoria Henson had 14 kills to become the eighth player in school history to record 1,000 career kills as 14th-ranked Iowa State earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-17) sweep of Texas Tech Wednesday night at United Spirit Arena.
Henson posted six kills in the third set to reach the milestone. She is the fastest player in school history to reach the mark, accomplishing the feat in her 80th career match.
The Cyclones (11-3, 3-2 Big 12) hit .389 and held the Red Raiders (2-10, 0-3) to a .057 hitting efficiency.
Rachel Hockaday was second on the team with 12 kills for her third-straight match in double figures. Hockaday hit .579 in the match with just one error on 19 attacks.
The Cyclones held a nine to four edge in blocks, led by Henson, who finished with a solo stuff and two block assists. Debbie Stadick and Kelsey Petersen finished with three block assists each.
Ashley Mass had 14 digs and Kaylee Manns notched her 57th career double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
Iowa State took the first set 25-15 behind five kills from Henson and Hockaday. The Cyclones trailed 9-8 but closed the set on a 17-6 run to go ahead 1-0 in the match.
In the second, ISU never trailed after scoring the first three points. The Red Raiders did close to within two at 9-7 after going on a 5-0 run, but ISU responded with a 6-0 run to take control of the set and win 25-14.
The Cyclones earned a sweep with a 25-17 third set victory. After the Red Raiders cut the lead to two at 12-10, ISU finished the set on a 15-7 run to end the match. ISU hit .444 in the final set.
Stadick also had a strong night offensively for the Cyclones, finishing with seven kills and no errors on 10 attempts. Petersen also had seven kills in the winning effort.
The Red Raiders were led by Alexxa Roberts' six kills.
Iowa State returns home this weekend for a Saturday match with Missouri. First serve from Hilton Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
