Gilstrap Wins Fifth Big 12 Rookie Honor

IRVING, Texas?For the third time in four weeks and the fifth time this year, Iowa State senior forward Marquis Gilstrap has been named Big 12 Rookie of the Week, announced today by the Big 12 Conference office.
Gilstrap, a native of Covington, Ga., continued his impressive beginning to his Big 12 career by averaging 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in ISU's two games last week. He recorded a pair of double-doubles, registering 19 points and 12 rebounds vs. Texas Tech and 18 points and 12 boards vs. No. 3 Kansas.
The Cyclone wing has four-straight double-doubles to begin his Big 12 career, joining former Texas standout and current NBA star Kevin Durant as the only two Big 12 players to begin their career with double-doubles in their first four league games. Durant did it in his first five games in 2007.
Gilstrap is averaging 18.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in conference games, leading the Big 12 (league games only) in rebounding. He has nine double-doubles to rank third in the league.
