AMES, Iowa - Iowa State libero Ashley Mass became the Big 12 record-holder with 2,041 digs on Saturday, passing former Kansas State Wildcat Angie Lastra (2,032) as the No. 13 Cyclones (13-4, 6-3 Big 12) beat the Texas A&M Aggies (9-10, 3-6 Big 12) in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 26-24)) in the annual Dig Pink match.
"We're really happy for Mass," head Cyclones coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "The record is a reflection of her hard work and consistency over the last couple of years. Ashley is a very special player and we're very lucky to have her on our team."
Mass has an Iowa State record 37 matches of 20 or more digs.
The win brings Iowa State volleyball back to a .500 record (659-659-10) as a program for the first time since 2000. For the match, Iowa State hit .254 on 58 of 142 hitting and collected seven blocks while holding the Aggies to a hitting percentage of .169.
"Most of [the match] was being aggressive on attack and trying to get kills from more than one or two people on our team," Johnson-Lynch said. "A lot of the talk after game two was about energy and excitement and getting it up, it was so flat up to then."
Senior Victoria Henson continued her tear through the Iowa State record books with 14 kills on the day, making her only the third Cyclone in Iowa State history with 1,500 kills. Henson now has 1,514 kills for her career.
With 11 digs against Texas A&M, Henson has posted seven double-doubles this season and has 25 straight 10-plus dig performances, dating back to the 2009 season.
Carly Jenson got in on the double-double action as well Saturday, grabbing 10 digs and adding a career-high 20 kills in her seventh double-double of the season.
Sets one, two and four were close, with win margins of three, four and two. Only set three, dominated by the Cyclones' .438 hitting, was a runaway as Iowa State won by a decisive 14 points, 25-11.
The Cyclones travel next to Colorado on Wednesday to face the Buffaloes for a 7 p.m. first serve.
