NEW ORLEANS – The Iowa State women's cross country team is ranked 11th nationally for the third straight week, according the latest poll released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The USTFCCCA also has the Iowa State women's team ranked first in the Midwest region, a position that has been maintained by the Cyclones since the preseason regional polls were released Aug. 30.
The Iowa State women have seen success in multiple meets already this season. Led by sophomore
Aliphine Tuliamuk and junior All-American
Betsy Saina, Iowa State's women have finished third at both the Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 25) and the Pre-Nationals Invitational (Oct. 16). Redshirt freshman
Taylor Petersen also led the women's squad to a Bradley Classic team title (Oct. 15), placing fourth individually.
Heading into the Big 12 Cross Country Championships Oct. 30 in Stillwater, Okla., the Cyclone women hold the third-highest national ranking among Big 12 teams, behind Texas Tech (4) and Colorado (7).
The men's squad currently holds a sixth-place ranking in the Midwest region.
