AMES, Iowa- Iowa State men's basketball player DeMarcus Phillips broke his hand in practice this afternoon and will likely be sidelined 4-6 weeks, Iowa State head coach
Fred Hoiberg announced today.
Phillips suffered a fracture of the metacarpal bone in his left hand while participating in a drill.
"This was a break that won't require surgery, which is great news," Hoiberg said. "The break was in his left hand, so he will be able to shoot and continue to participate in conditioning."
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Phillips is slated to make a contribution to the Cyclone backcourt in his first season in Ames. The junior guard transferred to Iowa State after an outstanding career at Marshalltown Community College.
Phillips will be in a cast for three weeks.
