AMES, Iowa - Iowa State defensive end Jacob Lattimer, who led the Cyclone defense in its 28-21 victory at No. 22 Texas Saturday, has been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week. In his first career start, Lattimer was a major factor in Iowa State's win at No. 22 Texas. Lattimer's ability to get into the Longhorn pocket was an undeniable factor in the Cyclones' win. The junior made seven tackles with two sacks and two tackles for loss. His sacks were two of the biggest plays of the game. After Texas had intercepted an Iowa State pass and took over 1st-and-10 at the Iowa State 46-yard line on the first play of the fourth quarter, Lattimer sacked Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert on the next play and forced the Longhorn signal caller to fumble. The ball was recovered by ISU defensive tackle
Jake McDonough at the Texas 40-yard line. Iowa State scored its final touchdown just four plays later. Lattimer was not finished. When Texas took over the football on its last-chance drive of the game with one minute left and no timeouts remaining, Lattimer sacked Gilbert again on first down at the Texas 5-yard line.
