LINCOLN, Neb. - In their final regular-season meeting as members of the Big 12, the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones (16-5, 9-4 Big 12) and the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers (20-2, 12-1) battled it out in front of 4,174 at Nebraska Coliseum on Saturday night. The Huskers walked away the victors in the end, winning in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16.
Senior Victoria Henson notched 11 kills on the night, moving her into second place all-time at Iowa State with 1,569 kills in her career behind Kristin Hugdahl's 1,620. With 10 digs against Nebraska, Henson has nine double-double performances this season and 26 for her career.
For only the third time this season, Iowa State collected fewer digs than its opponent. The Huskers had 59 digs, led by Kayla Banwarth's 17, and Carly Jenson led the Cyclones with 11. The team had 50 total digs.
A normally explosive offense, the Cyclones led the Big 12 with a hitting percentage of .277 going into the match, was stifled against the Huskers. Iowa State hit only .089 on the night, the team's lowest hitting percentage of the season.
Defense was the difference in set one as the Huskers collected 22 digs to Iowa State's 15. The Cyclones had the edge in blocks with four while the Huskers posted two.
Set two was all Huskers as Nebraska got out to a 4-1 lead early and rode its momentum to a 25-16 score behind .405 hitting heading into the locker room.
Next Wednesday, Nov. 3, the Cyclones are back at Ames High School for a 7 p.m. first serve against the Baylor Bears.
