AMES, Iowa - The No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones (16-5, 9-4 Big 12) are at home this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday against the Baylor Bears (12-11, 5-7) at Ames High School.
After its only three-set loss of the season on Saturday at then-No. 2 Nebraska, Iowa State returns home to gear up for the remaining seven regular-season matches. The Cyclones hit a season-low .089 against the Huskers after hitting .279 in their previous five matches.
The loss also marked the end of a five-match winning streak for the Cyclones.
The match against the Bears will be the Cyclones' final match at Ames High School this season as the team will be back in Hilton Coliseum on Saturday against the Missouri Tigers.
Cyclone Notebook
- The Cyclones will hold a special recognition ceremony following the National Anthem on Wednesday night before the beginning of the match with Baylor.
- The Cyclones' match at home against the Missouri Tigers on Nov. 6 will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum and the first 200 students will receive Subway sandwiches and a concessions soda.
- Iowa State's match against the No. 2 Huskers was the team's only match against a ranked opponent in October this year.
- The Cyclones are 2-4 against ranked opponents this season, recording wins over then-No. 14 Kentucky and then-No. 18 Northern Iowa.
- The Cyclones hit a season-low .089 against the Huskers. It is the lowest team hitting percentage for Iowa State since losing at then-No. 3 Texas in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
- Saturday's match marked only the third time this season an opponent has posted more digs than the Cyclones (59 vs. 50). In 184 matches under Christy Johnson-Lynch the Cyclones have been out-dug only 50 times.
- Victoria Henson recorded her 26th career double-double against Nebraska with 11 kills and 10 digs. Henson has had 10 or more kills in 95 matches as a Cyclone, 20 of those coming this season.
- The Cyclones fell to third in the conference rankings with the loss at Nebraska, but still rank second in the Big 12 in opponent hitting percentage (.165), assists per set (13.39), kills per set (14.20) and digs per set (16.15).
- With six total blocks against the Huskers, Jamie Straube re-entered the Big 12 top 10 in blocks per set, ranked eighth with an average of 1.11. Straube is ranked seventh in the league with a team-high hitting percentage of .324.
- Victoria Henson remains on top of the conference in kills with an average of 4.27 kills per set this season. Carly Jenson also makes the top 10 in kills, ranked ninth with 3.08 kills per set.
- Jenson also ranks among the top 10 in the Big 12 in service aces. Jenson is averaging 0.24, 10th-best in the league.
- Despite only one service ace at Nebraska, the Cyclones continue to lead the Big 12 in service aces in conference play with an average of 1.19 per set.
- Freshman Kristen Hahn got her first service ace as a Cyclone against the Huskers. Hahn's ace was the only Iowa State ace of the match.
- Straube tied her season high in block solos with two against Nebraska.
Streaks and Trends
- The Cyclones 53-match win streak over unranked teams ended with a 3-1 loss to the Jayhawks on Oct. 6.
- Iowa State has beaten at least one ranked foe in each of Johnson-Lynch's six years at the school.
- ISU opponents have hit over .300 just 14 times in 184 matches under Johnson-Lynch. Topping .300 has happened just eight times in 121 matches since 2007.
- Mass has posted double-digit digs in 110 of the 114 matches she has started at libero. Overall, she has been in double-digits 111 times.
- Victoria Henson's streak of 27-straight matches with 10 or more kills ended at Kansas State on Oct. 27. Henson had nine kills in the match.
Series Notes - Baylor
- Baylor leads the all-time series 18-13 but the Cyclones have won the last two meetings between the teams.
- Iowa State came from behind earlier this season to beat Baylor in Waco, 3-1.
- The last time the Bears visited Ames, Iowa State dropped the first and fourth sets on the way to a 3-2 win.
- Ranked sixth in the Big 12 this season, Baylor ranks higher than Iowa State in blocks per set (2.38), service aces (1.11) and leads the conference in digs per set with 18.69.
- Baylor hit .250 in its loss to the Cyclones earlier this season.
- Errors were the difference in Waco this season as the Bears had seven reception errors to the Cyclones two.
- Baylor's Caitlyn Trice leads the Big 12 with 5.25 digs per set this season and earned defensive honors from the league in the first week of the season.
- The Bears' top blocker is Elizabeth Graham. Graham is averaging 1.35 blocks per set this year, second-best in the conference.
