LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 16 Cyclones (20-7, 13-6 Big 12) stretched their winning streak to three on Wednesday, beating the Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-24, 2-17) in four sets, 25-19, 25-14, 25-27, 25-12 at United Spirit Arena.
The Cyclones finished the night hitting .302, the first time they have hit over .300 against a team other than Colorado since hitting .441 against Texas Tech in Ames last month.
After two quick sets to take the 2-0 lead, the Cyclones stalled and the Red Raiders jumped at the chance to get back in the match, winning the third set, 25-27. In the third, the Cyclones had 11 attack errors while the Red Raiders' defense collected six blocks.
In game four, the Cyclones trailed early but stayed close before pulling ahead and leaving the Red Raiders behind for good, winning decisively, 25-12.
Senior Victoria Henson recorded Iowa State's first 20-kill, 20-digs performance since she accomplished the same feat in 2009 against Baylor. She finished with 23 kills and a season-high 20 digs.
Libero Ashley Mass was all over the floor, digging a season-high 29 balls and adding four assists.
Other notable performances on the night were setter Alison Landwehr's 58 assists, which come one shy of her career record of 59 which she set at Colorado earlier this season. Carly Jenson posted the 11th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 16 digs.
The Cyclones built an 18-5 lead in set one before the Red Raiders made a late run, closing in and getting within three, down 22-19, but Iowa State refocused and shut the door on the set with a three-point run, winning 25-19.
More dominant in game two, the Cyclones jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back, winning the set 25-14 on .444 hitting. After posting no blocks in the first set, the Cyclones recorded four in game two.
Texas Tech came to life in set three, taking a 10-4 lead before the Cyclones went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 10. The teams traded leads for the remainder of the set until the Red Raiders pulled even at 25 and scored the final two points for the 27-25 win.
