AMES, Iowa - Iowa State men's basketball senior guard Diante Garrett became the 28th Cyclone to score 1,000 career points Sunday afternoon, as the Milwaukee, Wis., native tallied a game-high 27 points to lead the Cyclones to a 71-42 win over Dartmouth. The Cyclones improved their season record to 10-2 and Dartmouth fell 3-7.
Garrett currently has 1,017 points in his career and his 27 today was one off his career high he set Nov. 21, 2010 against Creighton.
After leading 28-27 at halftime, Iowa State opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take a 37-27 advantage with 15:03 remaining in the game. The Cyclones would go on to outscore the Big Green 43-15 in the second half, holding Dartmouth to just 4-of-25 shooting in the second half.
The Cyclones extended their lead to 51-20 with four consecutive 3-pointers by Garrett, Scott Chirstopherson, Bubu Palo and Jamie Vanderbeken, respectively. Palo went on to score a career-best 11 points.
Iowa State controlled the boards, holding a 45-31 rebounding edge. Jake Anderson led the Iowa State rebounding effort with a game-high 11. The Cyclones also shot an impressive 50 percent (12-24) from 3-point range.
The Cyclones return to action Tuesday when Chicago State travels to Hilton Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tilt.
