AMES, Iowa- Iowa State raced out to a 59-26 halftime lead and never looked back, as the Cyclones improved to 11-2 on the season with a 104-63 win over Chicago State Tuesday night in Hilton Coliseum.
The win marks the first time the Cyclones scored 100 points in a game since tallying 101 vs. Mountain State on Nov. 20, 2005.
The 11-2 start ties for the sixth-best start for an Iowa State team with two losses. Head coach Fred Hoiberg tied the school record for the best start by a first-year Cyclone leader with two losses. Hoiberg drew level with Tim Floyd, who began his Cyclone career at 11-2 in 1994-95.
Melvin Ejim led the Cyclones with 18 points, all in the first half. Diante Garrett also chipped in with 18 points and handed out nine assists in the victory. Garrett now has 1,035 points in his career to rank 25th all-time in school history.
As a team, the Cyclones shot 50 percent from the field, making over half of their shots for the fifth time this season. Iowa State made 10 3-pointers to record its seventh double-digit effort from beyond the arc this year. Scott Christopherson tossed in a pair of treys to increase his streak to 16 consecutive games with a made 3-pointer, tying for third-best streak in school history.
Iowa State also recorded a season-high 14 steals.
All 10 Cyclones scored in the game. Carl Montgomery had 25 points to pace Chicago State (3-11).
Iowa State is back in action on Dec. 30, traveling to Virginia in a 7 p.m. tip.
