IRVING, Texas ? Iowa State linebacker Jake Knott, punter Kirby Van Der Kamp and tight end Collin Franklin were named to The Associated Press second-team All-Big 12 Conference squad by the league's writers Friday. Cyclone center Ben Lamaak, offensive tackle Kelechi Osemele and linebacker A.J. Klein all earned honorable mention honors.
Franklin had a great senior season, ranking second nationally (to Missouri's Michael Egnew) among tight ends at 4.5 receptions per game. The Simi Valley, Calif. native led Iowa State with 54 receptions for 530 yards, with three touchdowns. He finished his career with 87 receptions for 980 yards and five touchdowns.
Knott was exceptional as a sophomore, leading the Big 12 with 10.83 tackles per game. He is tied for 11th nationally in that category. Knott had one of the best sophomore seasons in Iowa State history. The Waukee native made 130 tackles, broke up five passes, made four interceptions and forced four fumbles. Knott made 16 tackles at Colorado and broke up three Buffalo passes. At Oklahoma, Knott made 13 tackles.
Van Der Kamp leads the nation's freshmen punters, averaging 45.17 yards per kick. His average ranks second in Iowa State single-season history. The West Des Moines native is the only freshman named to one of the AP all-conference teams.
Klein, a sophomore, averaged 9.25 tackles per game, ranking him tied for fifth in the Big 12 in that category. Lamaak, a senior and Cedar Rapids native, started 42 games at a total of three different positions during his career. Osemele, a junior, has started 26 straight games.
