AMES, Iowa - Cyclone senior Victoria Henson and sophomore Jamie Straube have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Central Region Team. Libero Ashley Mass was named an all-region honorable mention. It is Henson's third consecutive selection to the all-region team and Straube's first AVCA selection; Mass was named to the all-region team in 2008 and 2009.
Each of the three Cyclones was honored by the Big 12 last month as all three were named to the All-Big 12 First Team.
Iowa State's standout outside hitter for the last four years, Henson holds the Iowa State record in kills (1,726) and kills per set (3.90). The Leavenworth, Kan. native started four seasons for the Cyclones, finishing her career by posting 20 or more kills in five of her last seven matches, including a season-high 26 kills against Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This year, Henson led the Big 12 in kills per set and points per set.
In her second season with the Cyclones, Straube led Iowa State in hitting this season with a team-high .326, ranked fifth in the Big 12 and in blocking with an average of 1.05 blocks per set, eighth in the conference. The Cyclones middle blocker recorded 15 matches with at least 10 kills this season on her way to helping the No. 16 Cyclones to a 20-9 finish and their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament berth.
The Big 12's Libero of the Year, Mass, from Muskego, Wis., started 123 matches at libero for the Cyclones from 2007-10 and tied Steph McCannon (1992-95) for the most matches played in a Cyclones uniform (129). With 2,294 digs in her career, Mass holds the Big 12 record in digs by more than 200 and is the only Cyclone to boast 2,200 digs. Over her four-year career, Mass averaged an Iowa State-record 4.92 digs per set and accumulated 15 conference honors for her defensive skills, a Big 12 record among volleyball players and a Cyclone record for any student-athlete.
The Big 12 boasted nine of the 14 players named to this season's all-central region team and Missouri's Molly Kreklow was named the region's top freshman. For a complete rundown of all the regional teams, follow the link above.
