STILLWATER, Okla.- Despite forcing multiple third sets, the Iowa State tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against 57th-ranked Oklahoma State, falling to 9-13 on the season and 2-8 in the Big 12 Conference.
In doubles action, Sasha Belova and Sarah Meghoufel defeated Erin Karonis and Jenna Langhorst, 8-2, while Alyssa Palen and Liza Wischer fell, 8-2, to Malika Rose and Alexandra Cristello. In the No.1 slot, Maria Macedo and Tessa Lang fell, 8-6, to Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Alisa Buslaieva.
In No. 4 singles action, Meghoufel quickly defeated Langhorst, 6-2, 6-0, while Lang fell 6-1, 6-2 to Buslaieva in the No. 3 slot.
Macedo picked up the Cyclones' first win of the day, defeating Belova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. In the No. 6 slot, Wischer fell, 6-4, in her first set against Cristello, before fighting back to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
With the match at 3-2 in favor of the Cowgirl's favor, Karonis dropped her first set, 6-1 against Shatkovskaya. Karonis fought back to win the second, 6-4, before falling 6-2 in the final set. In the No. 5 slot, Marie-Christine Chartier dropped her first set, 6-0, before raging back to win the second, 6-4, to force a third set, where she lost in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-6).
The Cyclones will wrap up regular-season play Sunday in Norman, Okla., when they face Oklahoma at 4 p.m.
