Cyclone Notebook
- Iowa State finished the 2009-10 campaign with a 15-17 overall record and a 4-12 Big 12 mark...the Cyclones suffered numerous injuries and defections during the season, depleting their roster to just eight scholarship players throughout the majority of the conference season.
- ISU, which was picked to finish eighth in the preseason Big 12 Coaches poll, ended the season tied for ninth place in the final Big 12 standings.
- ISU played one of its toughest schedules in recent memory, battling nine teams that were ranked in the top-25 at tip, including five teams ranked in the top-five.
- Wins over No. 5 Kansas State and Houston, a pair of NCAA Tournament teams, and a neutral site victory over St. Louis, a team which made the finals of the CBI, were highlights of the season...in all, ISU played 18 teams which advanced to postseason play.
- The win over Kansas State ended a 21-game losing streak to ranked opponents and it was just the eighth time in school history where ISU defeated a ranked team on the road, including just the fourth time in school history where ISU won on the road vs. a top-5 opponent.
- Craig Brackins finished the season as an all-conference performer for the second consecutive year, earning Big 12 Second Team honors...he was also an all-district pick by both the USBWA and the NABC.
Team Highlights
- Defeated two NCAA Tournament teams (Kansas State, Houston) and one CBI team (St. Louis).
- Recorded two Big 12 road wins, tying for the third-best single-season conference road win total since the league formed in 1996-97.
- ISU swept its first Big 12 opponent (Nebraska) since the 2006-07 season...ISU's win at Nebraska ended a 16-game conference road losing streak.
- ISU's win at No. 5 Kansas State ended a 21-game losing streak to ranked opponents and was just the fourth time in school history where the Cyclones defeated an opponent ranked in the top-five on the road.

Gilstrap Averaged A Double-Double In League Play
- Senior forward Marquis Gilstrap was outstanding in his only season with the Cyclones.
- The preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Gilstrap led the Big 12 in rebounding (league games only) at 10.3 rpg.
- Gilstrap was the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double in conference play, averaging 15.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in 16 Big 12 contests.
- Craig Brackins is the only other Cyclone to achieve the feat since the Big 12 began in 1996-97...Brackins averaged 21.8 points and 10.3 rebounds last season.
- Gilstrap began his Big 12 career with four-straight double-doubles...the only other player in Big 12 history to debut with four double-doubles in their first four conference games of their career is former UT national player of the year and current NBA star Kevin Durant...Durant notched double-doubles in his first five games of his Big 12 career (2007).
- His 11 double-doubles on the season ranked fifth in the Big 12.
Brackins Joined Elite 1,500 Point/700 Rebound Club
- Iowa State junior Craig Brackins joined an elite group of superstars in Iowa State history against Missouri (3-2-10) when he surpassed 1,500 points in his career.
- He became the sixth player in school history to record 1,500 points and 700 rebounds in a career, ranking 12th in career scoring (1,539) and eighth in career rebounding (736).
- The five other Cyclones to achieve the milestone are regarded as some of the best players in school history: Zaid Abdul-Aziz (1966-68), Jeff Grayer (1985-88), Victor Alexander (1988-91), Fred Hoiberg (1992-95) and Marcus Fizer (1998-2000).
- The other five former Cyclones to achieve the feat enjoyed NBA careers, combining 40 years of service in the NBA, and were named to ISU's All-Century team in 2008.
- Brackins became just the third to do it in three seasons (Abdul-Aziz; Fizer).
Iowa State Strong On The Boards With Gilstrap, Brackins And Hamilton
- The rebounding trio of Marquis Gilstrap, Craig Brackins and Justin Hamilton helped the Cyclones rank sixth in the league in rebounding margin (+1.7).
- This is a significant improvement for the Cyclones, which finished ninth in the league in rebounding margin last year at -1.6.
- Gilstrap averaged 9.3 rebounds, Brackins grabbed 8.5 rpg and Hamilton pulled down 5.4 boards...Gilstrap ranked fourth and Brackins was fifth in the Big 12.
- In conference play, ISU had three of the top-10 rebounders: 1. Marquis Gilstrap (10.3 rpg), 3. Craig Brackins (9.1 rpg), T9. Justin Hamilton (7.3 rpg).
- In league play, Gilstrap led the league in overall rebounding (10.3 rpg) and defensive rebounding (7.1 drpg), while Hamilton was tops in the Big 12 in offensive rebounding (3.7 orpg)...Brackins was second in the league in defensive rebounding (6.9 drpg).
- In league play, ISU was third in the league in rebounding at 39.1 rpg.
- ISU was one of the few teams nationally with two players ranked in the top-100 in rebounding...Gilstrap was 35th and Brackins was 70th.
The Cyclones Dig The Long Ball
- Since Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott took over in the 2006-07 season, he has always emphasized the importance of outside shooting.
- The Cyclones broke the school record for 3-pointers made in a season last year with 236 and four of the top five 3-point shooting teams in school history in regards to makes have come in the four-year Greg McDermott era.
- Four of the top five single-game 3-point shooting performances in ISU history have also occurred in the McDermott era, including this year's 14-of-23 effort vs. Drake which ranks second all-time
- ISU made 40 percent or more from downtown in 16 games.
- ISU tallied 10 or more 3-pointers in a game five times.
- ISU's season total of 209 ranks second all-time in school history.
