AMES, Iowa - Iowa State's nationally ranked volleyball team will play its 2010 home schedule at Ames High School after flood waters in Ames damaged Hilton Coliseum last week. The Cyclones' Wednesday home matches will start at 7 p.m. (they were originally set to begin at 6:30 p.m.) to allow for the high school to clear after school days. The Cyclones' Tuesday, Nov. 16 match against Colorado will also start at 7 p.m. All other Iowa State home matches will begin at their originally scheduled times.
The Cyclones, who were displaced from Hilton Coliseum by the flooding last Tuesday, have been practicing at West Towne Courts. That facility, on the west side of the city, will continue to host practices throughout the season. The volleyball coaching staff has moved its headquarters to the women's basketball offices at the Sukup Basketball Complex.
"There are so many people that have offered us assistance over the last week and we are very grateful to each of them," said Iowa State head volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch. "The generosity of the women's basketball staff, Dickson Jensen, who owns West Towne Courts, and Judge Johnston and the people at Ames High School is something we will never forget."
The seating capacity at Ames High School is approximately 2,000 fans. The Iowa State Athletics Department will reserve seats for Cyclone volleyball fans, who have purchased a season ticket. Although a limited number of single-match tickets may be made available at a later date, fans can guarantee themselves a seat only by purchasing a season ticket.
The home schedule includes 15 matches and season tickets costs $35 each. Season tickets are on sale now at cyclones.com or by calling the ticket office at 1-888-478-2925.
In 2009, Iowa State averaged over 2,700 fans per home match, ranking ninth nationally.
"Our fans have played such a major part in helping our program reach the heights it has over the past few years," said Johnson-Lynch. "I feel like with Ames High School's generosity, we have a unique opportunity to take this situation and use it to our advantage. That gym could be a very difficult place for our opponents to play and I look forward to seeing as many Cyclone fans there as possible."
Fans can catch a glimpse of the 2010 team Saturday at its annual Cardinal & Gold scrimmage at 3 p.m. at the high school. Admission to the scrimmage is free.
Iowa State opens its regular season home slate Friday, Sept. 3 against UW-Milwaukee.
