AMES, Iowa - A name familiar to some Iowa State fans will be heard echoing through Jack Trice Stadium once again at Thursday night's game against Northern Illinois. Former Cyclone running back, Tommy Davis Jr. will be returning to the stadium to watch his son Tommy Davis III play against Iowa State. Davis III will be playing defensive back for Northern Illinois.
“It's a great privilege and an honor to have attended Iowa State University and to have the chance to see my son play on the same field that I played on 26 years ago, Davis Jr. said. “It's a momentous occasion for our family.”
During his time at Iowa State, Davis Jr. earned second-team All-Big Eight Conference honors in his sophomore season and was the team's second-leading rusher as a senior. He lettered three times (1982-1984). The returning Cyclone is excited to share his experience playing in Ames with his Husky son.
“I'm planning to wear my old Iowa State jersey that I wore in 1982, my best season,” Davis said. “I'm going to wear my son's jersey on top of that to the game.”
Kickoff is Thursday at 7 p.m.
